As wedding florists, we are involved hands on with one of the most important days in a person’s life in a very exciting way. It’s one of the things we love most about our job. The chance to create something that visually embodies and represents the love of two people who have chosen to spend the rest of their lives together is so romantic! And we get to be right in the middle of it all. It is always a very special experience. So when we get the chance to be part of the big day for a close friend it makes it even more significant.
I (Aubree) met Mikayla when we moved into the same house a few years ago. Being roommates created amazing memories; from perfecting our moon-walking and robot during our many living room dance sessions, to eating a record amount of doughnuts in one sitting, to attempting couples acro-yoga together. Soon our friendship soon led to some of my greatest adventures, like pushing each other into buying those plane tickets that landed us halfway around the world; dancing with strangers and getting lost on trains to nowhere. It didn’t take long for me to realize I had a friend for life.
Being roommates even led to the series of events that saw Mikayla and her now-husband Jake spending their first significant time together. What else but true love could result from a super-spontaneous road trip to hike Hanging Lake in Colorado? I’ve been a witness to their growing love – from those early stages of side glances and sneaky grins on that road trip, to the exchanging of vows during an emotional ceremony in Moab, Utah last month. I felt so honored to be part of their wedding, as both their friend and their florist.
I can’t imagine a more perfect place for them to have their wedding, in surroundings that practically screamed, “Jakayla!” When you combine a celebration of love with some of the most stunning views in the world, you get nothing but the most perfect result.
